4th Grade- Room 6
My favorite quote?
This quote by Martha Washington has been one that I have shared with others during “tough times” and I have it posted on my refrigerator: “I am still determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may be, for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our disposition and not on our circumstances.”
My favorite summertime activity is?
I am not a lover of heat or sunbathing, so in the summer I like to visit places that are either foggy or shady. We have a Sonoma County Park Pass and I like to visit places on the coast for a walk, or find refuge under the redwoods. Any outing can be made better with a strong cup of coffee, a scone, and the company of our two dogs, Vladimir and Leah.
My goals for the 2016-2017 school year?
Each year my goals for the upcoming school year are basically the same: I want each and every child in my class to experience success and I want each student to eagerly look forward to coming to school. That being said, I also want each and every child to know what to do when they don’t experience success. We all need tools! In my classroom, we are all in this process together. Practice makes progress! We are here to cheer each other on! At the end of the year, I want all members of the Room 6 Family to leave this room with new skills, a set of reliable tools and a confident outlook.
If I were hosting a classroom event/lecture/lesson and could invite three people, Living or not living, who would you invite?
I would invite my deceased grandfather, Dr. George Smith, Jon Stewart, the comedian, and Terry Gross, the radio interview host. Lately, I have been wishing that I had taken better notes during my grandfather’s lifetime. He was born in San Francisco in 1905, and I forgot to ask him where he was during the 1906 Earthquake, and if he played with Ansel Adams, the photographer, as a child. I miss Jon Stewart hosting The Daily Show, and I would welcome his humorous outlook during this time of political crazy. Terry Gross has interviewed so many brilliant guests. Having her over for an event would certainly get the conversation going! All three of my dream guests are great storytellers and good listeners, so I suspect they would really enjoy each other!
